Herbie Wiles Insurance agent earns certification of expertise in the provisions and implementation of health reform to help the community better understand the health care changes effective October 1, 2013.
Don Lohr, Life and Health Insurance Agent, has earned the designation of Certified Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act Professional (PPACA). With the successful completion of a ten hour course regulated by the National Association of Health Underwriters, Lohr has learned what is needed to comply with the new law as well as how the market is likely to change over the next few years.
“I wanted to ensure that I had the highest level of information and education regarding the PPACA legislation, so as to best serve our clients and the community,” says Lohr.
Developed by experts in health care and employment law, this course teaches the key technical components of PPACA and better prepares agents to counsel clients on upcoming required healthcare changes and new options and requirements for health plans. With this training, Lohr is able to develop client specific timelines and provide advice to clients in planning for the future.
The Affordable Care Act, passed in 2010, is comprised of comprehensive reforms that will ideally improve access to affordable health coverage for everyone. The new Health Insurance Marketplace opens October 1, 2013 allowing millions of Americans to comparison shop for affordable plans that best meet their health care needs.
“Knowledge is critical with all these new regulations and changes,” says Lohr. “The more you learn about the regulations, the better prepared you are to properly advise and assist consumers. Only a select number of agents throughout the State have committed to take this high level, extensive course.”
Health Care Reform has a significant impact on the state of Florida. The U.S. Census Bureau says there are about 3.8 million residents without health insurance. That totals to nearly a quarter of Florida’s population, making it the third-highest rate in the country.
